Working with gold is a commitment. Working with vermeil is a careful choice. In the workshop, these two materials are approached with the same rigor.
Here we take the time to look back at their specificities and the view we, at Monsieur Paris, have of precious materials.
Gold: a precious metal in its noblest form
Gold is a rare metal, sought after for its stability, longevity, and timeless brilliance. At Monsieur Paris, we use exclusively recycled 18-karat gold, certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). This choice reflects our commitment to responsible jewelry that respects resources and expertise. 18-karat gold contains 75% pure gold, combined with metals such as silver and copper to ensure strength and durability. Unlike 24-karat gold, which is too malleable for everyday wear, it offers the perfect balance between material nobility and durability.
Why 18-carat gold?
There are several “titles” of gold depending on their pure gold content:
- 24 carats (99.9% gold): too soft for everyday jewelry.
- 18 carats (75% gold): the standard of fine jewelry, durable and brilliant.
- 14 carats (58.5%) or 9 carats (37.5%): more economical, but less valuable.
At Monsieur Paris, we have exclusively chosen 18-carat gold. For its quality, its durability, but also for what it embodies: exacting craftsmanship, built to last.
Vermeil: a precious and responsible alternative
Vermeil is a precious metal recognized by French law. It is composed of solid silver (925 thousandths), covered with a thick layer of 18-carat gold of at least 5 microns.
At Monsieur Paris, this gilding is carried out in Paris, in a partner workshop selected for its high standards and mastery of the technique. The finish of vermeil is very close to solid gold: the same warm hue, the same subtle shine. It allows us to offer pieces with a precious look, at a more affordable price.
Maintenance: how to preserve your jewelry
- 18-carat gold jewelry: can be worn daily, even underwater. Gold does not oxidize or tarnish. A simple soft cloth is enough to revive its shine if necessary.
- Vermeil jewelry: requires more care. It is recommended to avoid water, perfumes, cosmetics, and prolonged rubbing. When not wearing them, store them in their case or a fabric pouch, away from moisture.
We offer a workshop maintenance service to restore all the shine to your jewelry, whether it is gold or vermeil.
Two subjects, one requirement
Whether you choose gold or vermeil, each Monsieur Paris piece of jewelry is designed with the same rigor: a refined design, artisanal work, a direct link with the workshop.
Our mission: to bring to life artisanal excellence, driven by the hand of the craftswoman and the nobility of the materials.
